About Me
I have spent the last nine wonderful years in the field of education. I began my journey teaching K-12 vocal music. My love for problem solving and exploring new ways to experience music soon developed into integrating technology into all facets of the classroom. This wasn’t simply throwing iPads at my students and letting the tablets do all the work, but required time, patience, and research into ways we can bring the world of music to this rural Wisconsin town. Tools that allowed us to see, hear, visit, and experience the orchestra with its many instruments through AR, interviews, and exploration became a wonder to many!
Tools like Seesaw became a way for students to perform and get feedback. Noteflight became a way for learners to visually map and track the movement of a song. Creating music became accessible to students who were lacking the skills for playing piano.
From here my tenacity for technology expanded to teaching other educators how to use similar tools in their classrooms. Programs like Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, etc. that I had dabbled in throughout college became a standard program in my repertoire as I expanded and begun running marketing and promotions for my parents’ family business along side creating posters for the local community theater and programs for district concerts. Attending workshops like Spring into Success and Google Summit opened doors for new ways to gather information that I could then present to my colleagues to fit our unique needs. Before long I became the go-to for technology questions and training leads for professional development. Prior to lifetime teaching licenses, my district hosted a series of graduate classes for educators to earn credits for their licenses through the University of Wyoming. Here I was able to teach different courses that featured integrating edTech into the classroom, staff technology competency, content creation, and community outreach via classroom websites and newsletter tools.
In more recent years, while I still teach full time, I have directed several professional development trainings in technology. These have led to leading the pilot run for systems like GoGuardian before being pushed out district wide. I couldn’t stop at just teaching staff, in 2020 I received my teaching license for Computer Science and actively teach two middle school introductory courses with an added AP Computer Science Principles course for fall 2022.
While I love teaching, I feel that I truly shine when leading in technology and custom content, especially interactive content. With so much of education now existing on the computer, learners still need to be able to interact with their content to create a supportive foundation in what they are learning.
